an oak seat

Having worked the last two weekends it would be nice to have a day or two off this week but I have quite a lot on so a day off will have to wait till the week after next when kids are on half term. I do have some really nice inspiring work on though so it does not feel a chore. Monday was spent unpacking after the weekend and the afternoon and Tuesday I was finishing off an oak bench. Wednesday I took it down to Charlton-on-Otmoor just north of Oxford and installed it in its new home. An 8am start and home at 11.30 so a long day but I was really pleased.





Afterwards I went to look at the next commission which is a commemorative project to replace this rather institutional gate with something a little more appropriate to the surroundings.


Today was spent cutting bowl blanks for this weekend as I will be taking the lathe to the Derbyshire food and drink fair at Bolsover Castle. Tomorrow is the 65th anniversary of the dambusters raid for which the crews practiced over the ladybower dams just up the road. In the morning I am helping ferry children from our village school and walking them up the hill to watch as a Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane fly over the dams, a good local history lesson for them I think.
